Overview
According to Cahners In-Stat Group, a market research group focusing on digital communications, by 2004 there will be 25.1 million subscribers passed for broadband access (capable of receiving broadband services) in the U.S. MDU/MTU (Multi-Dwelling/Tenant Unit) market alone.

MDUs/MTUs consist of Condominiums, Apartments, Hotels, Marinas, Colleges, Dormitories, Health-Care Facilities, Prisons, Office Buildings, Campuses, and Private Offices.

Strategy Analytics stated in a recent report that 27% of all U.S. Internet homes are accessing the internet via broadband connections, they expect that number to grow by almost 40% by the end of 2003.
ChannelBox’s high-speed Internet service can provide your residents, tenants and Property Manager, with twice the speed of DSL, for less than what the local phone companies charge. Our solutions can provide high-speed, “always-on” Internet access via your existing cable TV system, via Cat-5, or through a Wireless Network (WiFi).

As An Amenity
Think about the service as an amenity. Has the property owner invested in a pool, a satellite video solution, and new appliances for the units? Why does a property owner invest in each one of these things?

The answer is very simple, they need to stay competitive and they want to increase their occupancy rates. With a projected 70% of internet users on broadband within the next couple of years, this becomes the amenity that is a must-have for people who are looking to relocate.

Offering either a reduced broadband rate or high-speed Internet to residents or tenants as an included amenity could have a profound effect on occupancy rates going forward.

How It Works
Properties that already provide video services to their residents or tenants are in a perfect position to receive ChannelBox’s high-speed Internet service. This really is just an additional service offering using much of the same infrastructure the property already has in place.

The solution brings a high-speed dedicated Internet connection to the property. The Internet connection goes into a router (CSU/DSU), which connects to the Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS), typically located in the Property’s equipment room. From the CMTS, the connection goes through an upconverter, which is then delivered via the existing cable distribution system within the building. Hooking up your resident or tenants is simple.

The video cable is plugged into a splitter, within the resident’s home, and then one output cable is plugged back into the resident’s TV and the other output cable is plugged into the residents cable modem.
